The group CHARLES DAVIS and CAPTURED MOMENTS led by the Australian jazz
flutist Charles Davis is one of the most successful formations working
at the moment on the German and Swiss jazz scenes. Their last CD "Pathways" received widespread acclaim in Germany.
Their distinctive chamber music jazz, fuses the various elements of blues,
arabian, indian and east European music, flamenco, bossa nova, rock,
folk and bebop into a unmistakable "Captured Moments" style of jazz playing.
The trio has played in most of the leading jazz clubs in Germany.
CHARLES DAVIS, one of Europe's leading flute players,
has a wide range of musical activities and interests. He is also
leader of the Flute Quintet "Four or more Flutes" that has played in
various Jazz Festivals in Germany and the indian fusion group "Ensemble
Chanchala" with the tabla player Sandip Bhattacharya. He is
currently working with the German narrator Gabi Altenbach in the
project "Indian Fairy Tales".
SVEN GÖTZ, the German-Swedish jazz guitarist studied at
the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart and brings to the group his experience
in playing in many musical genres.
STEFFEN HOLLENWEGER, is a promising young
bassist from the up and coming generation of new German jazz
musicians. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim and is a much
demanded musician involved in a great variety of music
projects.
This group with its great variety of styles, proves that a group without
a drummer can be rhythmically interesting and achieve an musical intensity
that many internationally well-known groups would be envious of.
Review about the newest Captured Moments CD "Pathways"
Rolf Thomas in the Jazzthetik from November 2008 to "Pathways"
"In the piece 'Blues for Saliba" Charles Davis really flips
out; the wild overblowing on the flute, an earthy walking bass line
from Steffen Hollenweger and Sven Götz's filigree sound on
the acoustic guitar, create an impressive wild musical voyage."
Klaus Mümpfer in the Jazzpodium from December 2008 to "Pathways"
"The flutist's playing is as unmistakable as his compostions,
that in spite of all these years of playing, still
keeps one
enchanted."
Gerd Filtgen in Image HiFi from January 2009 to "Pathways"
"One needs a magnifying glass to find such
conceptional high quality of improvising music for the flute. In the last
50 years the standards set by Eric Dolphy, Jeremy Steig and James
Newton are hard to fulfil, an exception to this is Charles Davis."
